VSN Cabaret Challenge: La Vie en Rose
When you kiss me, Heaven sighs
And though I close my eyes
I see la vie en rose
When you press me to your heart
I'm in a world apart
A world where roses bloom...
Edith Piaf was one of the premiere French Cabaret singers. La Vie en Rose, French for Life in Pink, was her signature song. My challenge (today at 2 pm EST) for the VSN Cabaret Theme Weekend was to make a pink floral card, with bonus points for a card that is both pink and uses a rose.
Card Details
I have to admit I got this Stampin' Up! Bella Blossoms stamp set and Bella Rose patterned paper with this challenge in mind. I adore this set and hope to teach a class around it soon.
I stamped the large rose three times onto cardstock graduating VersaMagic shades of green (Hint of Pesto, Tea Leaves and Key Lime), and pinks (Pink Petunia, Pixie Dust and Pink Grapefruit). To do this I used Dew Drops pads which are small and have a triangle end - the perfect shape to apply ink to only a certain area with precision. I applied the lightest color all over then edged with the darker colors.
I cut the flower image into an oval shape with my Oval shape Nestabilities die cut - part of the flower was cut off due to the small size of the die cut. I sponged the oval die cut with VersaMagic Pixie Pink - a perfect pigment ink match for Stampin' Up!'s Pink Pirouette, which only comes in the classic version of the ink.
Finally I sponged on Pink Pirouette, Riding Hood Red and Rose Red on the edges. The slow drying, creamy chalk Ink allows the instant dry dye based Classic ink to blend so that you don't get the streaks you would if you only used Classic ink.
Next I took the second image and cut out the leaves and the flower, and the flower of the third image to layer onto the oval with pop up dots and glue dots using my Curve and Pop Method. Between adding the two layers I added a bit of Distress Crackle Paint in Worn Lipstick to the large petals to add a vintage, shabby chic touch.
My last step was to add some Stickles to the leaves and center of the flower, and a pink felt flourish from Fancy Pants Felt Shapes. I highly recommend these felt shapes - you get 4 sheets of 12x12 in pink, white, green and blue. TONS of shapes and the felt is very high quality. The red felt heart was from the dollar store. I used a Sizzlet die cut to cut textured Riding Hood Red Corner accents. The base of the card is textured Pink Pirouette. This card seems like it has so many steps but it only takes minutes. I created this card in about 40 minutes but a lot of it was thinking what to do, what to do.
To get you in the mood to create a pink floral card you can read the lyrics to La Vie en Rose in both French and English and also listen to La Vie en Rose sung by Edith herself here.
If you were unable to join us at VSN you can still play! You have until Sunday 10 PM EST to upload to the Splitcoast Gallery - please use keyword NOV08VSNI so that I can find your card and leave you some love, or you can play along at anytime just for yourself :)
Thanks for stopping by!
