Hello and welcome to the Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps Blog Hop! This month we are all excited for summer and showing it with some great summer stamps. For my card I used Summer Sentiments, the perfect summer sentiment set that you can actually use all year round :) and the kite from Summer Fun, which is stamped twice using Memento Tuxedo Black ink, then colored with Copics.
The kite itself is cut out and glittered up with Stickles in Fruit Punch. For the tail, I used small dovetailed snippets of Stampin' Up! Pretty in Pink Taffeta Ribbon.
Yes it is a shaped card again - I love the smaller size, the fun shape, and the ease of using a die cut (Nestabilities Circles and Scallop Circles). The paper is Core'dinations yellow and purple two toned cardstock that I sanded with my nail file. The pealized pink that is sandwiched in between is Bazzill Bling.
Unfortunately no matter what I tried I could not get the picture to really show the clouds I created onto the white cardstock using a scallop die cut scrap and VersaMagic Aquatic Splash chalk ink. If you double click the image to enlarge it maybe you can see them a bit.
This card can be created in minutes. All in all an easy, breezy card for summer!

Hope you had a wonderful weekend! We had clear skies and sunshine, and BBQd for two days straight. The doggies got to head to the park and had lots of fun. I have also been super busy with articles and cards I get to share with you soon :)
This week's challenge over at the House Mouse & Friends Challenge Blog is to make a get well card. I didn't really have any specifically get well type House Mouse images, so I cut this image from Warmth for Winter and added a red nose.
Little mouse was colored with the Copics you see above. I also turned to my Nesabilities for a Scallop Circle shaped card. The base blue is Core'dinations textured cardstock that I sanded with my nail file for a bit of a vintage, shabby chic feel. The striped Kraft and navy polka dot vellum are from stampin' Up!'s Taste of Textiles paper collection (love this).
The Feel Better sentiment is from Papertrey's Mixed Messages set, cut onto a Cuttlebug Tiny Tags die cut.
I sponged a bit of VersaMagic Aquatic Splash and Stampin' Up! Creamy Caramel around the edges of the image and sentiment.
The ribbon,Stampin' Up!'s Chocolate Chip, has this wonderful white thread woven in it that shows through when you shred it up a bit. I wrapped the ribbon around the tag, then tied the center with another piece for a bit of a different look.
Final touches include a bit of Stickles on the pom pom of the hat, and threaded BasicGrey Porcelain buttons.

Hello and happy Earth Day!
To celebrate Earth Day, Odd Bird Planet is having a full day of challenges from 6am PDT - Midnight (Pacific Daylight Time, to see what that is in your part of the world click *here*). I am kicking off the challenges with a Brown Paper Bag Challenge!
To Participate: make a card or other paper crafts project that uses some brown paper bags you have laying around (i.e. grocery store bags, lunch bags, anything that re-uses some household brown paper).
My Card Details: I cut up an old brown paper lunch bag, crinkled it up by rolling it into a ball, unfolded it, and ran my Creamy Caramel Ink (by Stampin' Up!) and Chocolate Ink (by Ancient Page) over the wrinkles to create textured, rolling hills.
I sanded up some Core'dinations cardstock (a very green company, as can be seen in my Craft Critique article here) to create a frame for my little nature scene, as well as the Kelly's Tree and the ocean waves (created with Michelle's Scroll stamp). The Hot Air Balloon is also stamped onto sanded Core'dinations. I used Copics right onto the colored textured cardstocks to color the Let Your Dreams Soar sentiment and the tree bark - you can still see the waffle pattern through the color, which I like. The only non textured cardstock is the Cloud stamp, which I edged up with a bit of blue ink on a foam wedge after cutting out. All stamps are by Odd Bird Planet.

I will leave you with a couple of photos taken yesterday as we scouted out a cottage for our Stampin' Up! Demonstrator Retreat in May. So beautiful. Here is a view from the cottage, which is located in the Irish Loop. The local accent is extra Irish here, I could barely keep up lol.
This is a view from the porthole window inside the chalet.
Here is the first iceberg (well, the first seen by me) of the season. It takes about 3 years for these guys to break off from Greenland and float here. Each April they begin to arrive, get trapped in our harbors, and slowly melt. What is amazing is that it is 90% BIGGER underneath the water. Yep, that is just the tip of the iceberg. It was really massive, my photo was taken several miles away.
What do Newfoundlanders do with icebergs? Why, make Vodka! And water...two big industries here.

Happy Monday! Today's challenge over at the House Mouse & Friends Challenge Blog is to create a a card with this one word challenge: Springtime. You card can be however you interpret the word. The House Mouse stamp Springtime will be awarded to one lucky entrant in a random draw thanks to our sponsor Simon Says Stamp. There are challenges and prizes galore happening this week, more about those after the card details.
It is the end of my first year here in Newfoundland, and we continue to have snow and a chilling wind, but the sun is peeking out more often, and I can feel spring coming. Given these circumstances, at the moment springtime means a crisp, clean, serene happiness; knowing the flowers will arrive despite the snow. As a result, I went with a (mostly) monochromatic white card.
I colored the House Mouse stamp Twinkle Toes with the Copic Markers you see above, adding a halo of pale yellow and blue to create a warm, glowing sky.
Next I cut the image out with my Nestabilities Oval Die Cut. I surrounded the oval with Petaloo Flora Doodles (textured white cardstock flowers with rhinestone centers) and added it to a textured cardstock base with foam dimensional dots.
The corners of the card were paper pierced with an Ornare Paper Piercing Template.

Today's card uses the Alota Stamps Cottage and Magnolia Stamps Tilda With Tinsel Garland to create a spring scene. How can a stamp from the Christmas 2008 Collection be used for Spring? More re-purposing. I simply colored the garland a bright leaf green created added Liquid Pearl "rosettes". A mini tutorial on how to make those follows the card details - it's easy as pre-baked pie.
The cottage was stamped twice with Memento Ink, then cut out with a die cut Nestabilities Square. This way I could pop up the cottage and still have the grass. I added tiny gray and brown dots using the Copic Markers you see above to give the cottage a cobbled look, and added Ranger Glossy Accents to the windows for a shiny, glazed appearance.
The trellis of flowers around the door is made from more Ruby Red and Pastel Raspberry Liquid Pearl rosettes, as is the doorknob (Gold).
The heart on the door was glammed up with Crystal Stickles, as were the pearl accents (Robin's Nest Dew Drops) and tag stamp with the Home Sweet Home sentiment, both by Magnolia as well.
The patterned paper is an old favorite, Cosmo Cricket's Honey Pie with Garden Green textured cardstock and Bazzill warm pink cardstock (not sure of the name).
I went overboard on the Liquid Pearls and added them to Tilda's dress and hair bows as well.
The white Liquid Pearls used here is White Opal. I like how you can get even the tiniest pearl size with the fine tip applicator.
Supplies Needed:
Directions
1. Take the Lighter color of Liquid Pearls and squeeze a small blob onto the paper. Remember to do this as your last step as it takes a long time to dry.
Test the flow on copy paper first. You want a blob that is compact at the base and kind of high - this is because as the LP dries it will flatten and spread, as I learned by making the card above. You can see how they flattened out :(
2. Take a pin or paper piercer and dab the tiniest bit of the darker color onto the point. Swirl the darker color into the lighter carefully and gently - you don't want to mix the colors, just trace a swirl. It is best to work with the least amount of the darker color you can, and add if it's too little. Again, be sure to test one out on copy paper first.
3. Allow to dry 1-2 hours on a flat, level surface. As the blob is so thick, it will be subject to smooshing with nails or pressure, and also to sliding if it's tilted, so you gotta be careful :)
Once dry, I used green marker and a bit of Mint Green Liquid Pearls to create leaves.

Today's card is another Easter stamp that has been repurposed into a girlfriend card. I used Magnolia Stamps Easter Tilda, Chicks and Sign With Words to create this little scene card. I just love the sweet little chicks everywhere and can see the sign and chick stamps also used for a personalized baby card.
Tilda and the chicks were colored with the Copic markers you see above.
I added Liquid Pearls to Tilda's dress (I have been asked who Tilda is - that is the little girl's name) and Stickles to the feathers and flowers that are around her.
The wood grain patterned paper is by Pink Paislee and has been die cut with a Big Shot Top Note Die from Stampin' Up!
I used my Around the Block Label Maker and some pink tape to create the Hey Chick sentiment.
The beautiful ribbon rose was a treat from Diana that came with my Magnolia stamps.

Here are a couple of cards on their way to California right now. I am sure they will enjoy the palm trees and sunshine. As I type this it is snowing again - maybe Allan and I could sneak in the envelope with the cards?
The card above uses Odd Bird Planet's Kelly's Squirrel Right and Kelly's Stump. Both were colored with Copics; the squirrel is popped up on dimensionals.
The sentiment was made with Around The Block's label maker, I just love that they have tape in all colors.
This next card uses the teeniest, tiniest stamp, Bunny Ears Chicklet. The stamp is 3/4 inch square.
I used Bazzill cardstock on both cards. The sheer, whispy fabric flower is by Imaginisce.
I kept a minimalist, modern, clean design (hey it's clean for me) to let the quirky personality of the stamps shine through.

Hi everyone,
I'm back after a 2 day migraine bender. I would take Benadryl, feel better, then come to the kitchen table to do some crafting and get the headache again. Only took me two days to discover that I was allergic to the beautiful Easter Lily plant on the table- no flies on me! As a result, I will have a few things to share today. Let's start with a coffee card! Today is the debut of the monthly Design Team Round Up on the Sweet 'n Sassy Blog. This little 4 square number, which uses the Warm Up Stamp Set, is my contribution.
I began with a base of Bazzill Scallop Edge cardstock, and added matting of Navy and Green (the navy is Bazzill textured, the green is Stampin' Up!'s Wild Wasabi). The patterned paper is BasicGrey's Marrakech. I used Nestabilities squares to create four little coffee scenes.
The cups are stamped twice, colored with Copic markers, and popped up on dimensional foam dots. The polka dots were applied with Liquid Pearls in Gold.
What I like about this stamp set is that it comes with lots of accessories to stamp and mix and match. The little steam swirl on top of the cups is it's own stamp.
I used the coffee beans to create a background on two of the squares (using Memento Ink in Rich Cocoa).
I cut out a couple of the beans so they peek out of the square. The orange silk ribbon is by Martha Stewart. I won it during CHA at the EK Success booth playing a challenge game - we had to create with a partner using whatever was in the bag, then we won the goods. CHA was so fun :)
Back to the card at hand: The coffee bag is popped up on foam dimensionals as well. I created a pattern for the burlap bag using different shades of brown and a Colorless Blender held down for a few seconds to create a pattern.
The beans peeking out from the bag are covered with Copper Stickles for some glitz.
There you have it, a girlfriend card that can be sent for any reason (my favorite kind!).

Hello friends and Happy Easter!
This is the first of two cards for this special day. I used Odd Bird Planet's tiny Easter Bonnet Chicklet on the Small Lacy Circle Scallop stamp, framed by a super cute hole punched flower.
The chicklet is colored with Copic Markers, and embellished with a few dots of Pastel Raspberry Liquid Pearls.
I think the flower shaped hole punch paper is by Bazzill; you get three of these little flowers on a 12x12 piece of textured cardstock.
To emphasize the holes in the flower I took a piece of hot pink cardstock and put it behind the holes, raised by pop dots.
When the card is opened you see the pink square with a Happy Easter sentiment created with a label maker.
I will leave you with a photo of my family this Easter Sunday. Allan is like a kid, always making faces for the camera.
Today is overcast and we are home, preparing our little Easter dinner. We had a beautiful day at the dog park yesterday, and enjoyed a little coastal drive. The sun was bright and warm, for a while at least, and the wind was calm. The dogs played and played. We have discovered that Rosie, who is twelve, is going deaf. She can hear very loud noises but that is about it. Other than that, she acts like a young puppy and even chased a few dogs at the park. She gets super excited and goes back and forth, not sure which way to go, then just spins instead.
Freeway, who is still a pup at one and a half, started Flyball last week. He has a tremendous tug and ball drive, which is great for the sport, but he is afraid of the hurdle and the cones used to teach turning. He is such a little chicken but I think his extreme athletic ability will overcome. Allan and I have to run in the classes so maybe we will all get some exercise ha.
The classes are taught at an Equestrian center; it is so cute to see all the horses stick their heads out of the stable to watch. I forgot to bring my camera last week, but hope to take some shots soon.

I called this recipe General Tso's Chicken yesterday and I think it is very similar except for the addition of orange, but what do I know. It had been so long since I had it that I forgot what it is :) Whatever you want to call this, it is so tasty - very pungent, with a sweet and sour type flavor that is tempered by orange. You can add less or more spices, whatever veggies you prefer, and substitute honey for the sugar (but do not use brown). You can also omit the wine, but it adds a layer of complexity to the sauce.
The recipe seems complicated but it isn't. Just read it through first as you need to do some prep work and have everything chopped, then cook assembly line style. First prepare the sauce and allow about an hour for the flavors to "marry" as they say. The rice (or noodles) should be started about 30 minutes before you begin to fry the chicken. You should also have water boiling and ready to blanch the broccoli quickly, then strain and put it on paper towels to wick away water.

1. Trim the chicken into thin slices, pat it dry if necessary, and put it on a lined baking sheet that will fit into your fridge to chill. You want to lay it out flat so the pieces don't clump together, and also you want it very cold as chicken fries better that way. An hour of chilling should be fine.
2. Prepare the sauce and set it aside, allowing it to marinate for at least an hour.
3. Have all your veggies chopped and ready to go. About 30 minutes before you want to eat, wash the rice and get it going, and start a boiling pot of water to blanch the broccoli in.
4. Heat the oil to fry the chicken. I use medium heat and canola oil, filling the pan enough to deep fry (about 2 cups). The oil is ready to fry when you sprinkle a pinch of cornstarch in the oil and it sizzles/bubbles (about 350 degrees I think).
Coat the chicken in cornstarch by shaking it in the Ziploc bag. Work in small batches so the chicken doesn't stick together and clump. Fry in small batches as well so that you don't lose oil temperature.
The chicken cooks quite quickly - 3 minutes is all you really need, but test a piece to make sure. The cornstarch doesn't brown like flour does, so you can't go by that. Set cooked chicken on a paper towel covered plate and put into a 220 degree oven to keep heated.
5. Add a bit of sesame oil (optional) and canola oil to a clean pan. Saute the ginger and garlic until it sizzles, but don't allow it to turn brown. Add the sauce and cook on a low boil until it turns thick and syrupy, about 10 minutes.
At this point I dump the broccoli into the boiling water, boil it for 2-3 minutes then rinse it with cold water (this keeps the bright green).
6. Add the red pepper and green onions to the sauce, then add the chicken and gently coat. The chicken will soak up all the sauce, this is not a "saucy" dish.
7. Pat broccoli dry on paper towels, put it into a shallow bowl or place and place the chicken on top. Serve it with the rice or noodles. SO yummy! This serves four, make extra rice if you have a big eater lol.

Today's card was created for the Splitcoast Stampers Ways to Use It Challenge, which was to use labels on your card. I have been hoarding this fabulous patterned paper, so the card should feel very special indeed that I decided to use my treasure on it :)
The teapot image, from Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps Warm Up set, was stamped twice onto white cardstock. I love this set because it has stamps for coffee, tea and cocoa.
The base was die cut with a circle Nestabilities, while the top image was colored with the Copics you see above and cut out. I cut out the teacups as well and used differing heights of dimensionals to create my little scene.
I used BasicGrey's Marrakech patterned paper on a white card base for a clean yet colorful look. I think/hope the use of white counteracts the busy-ness of the paper. A few squares from the patterned paper were used to create a tablecloth for the teapot.

The Around the Block Label Maker was used to spell out Tea for Two; I cut up it and added it around my image. I think there may be a couple left on clearance at Embellish-Online.com too - last I checked those were 70% off.
The little white scallops along the sides is Doodlebug's Paper Frills trim.

I will leave you with a picture of last night's dinner. I made General Tsao's Chicken at home. It was the most amazing dinner, and quite authentic tasting, meaning it tasted just like the restaurants in California. Allan really raved over it.
What was nice is that the flavor comes from vinegar and orange rather than a lot of salt, which we need to keep an eye on. Kind of a sweet and sour flavor.
There are really no good Chinese places to eat at in Newfoundland, so this new found recipe is a treasure.

Are you ready for Easter? Tilda, dressed in her fleecy bunny outfit, sure is! Wouldn't you love to wear that to the office or to the pick up the kids at school, just for the day? It would make for some snickers for sure. Today I have a card and a little carrot patch candy box to share with you that will hopefully make you smile too.
I colored Sitting Easter Bunny Tilda with the Copics you see above, adding a bit of Stickles Glitter Glue to her angel wings (Icicle) and the Easter egg she is holding (Fruit Punch). I kept a lot of space on the card to show off the cutest patterned paper from the Making Memories Flower Patch collection. The bunnies are velvet flocked! Tilda is sitting atop the Easter Basket stamp, which will be perfect for summer use as well as it is a plain basket :) The "grass" was created from Copic markers using different colors of green dots over a base of light green (Mignonette), then dotting the Blender Pen to kind of blur it all together.
An interesting detail was done with the rik rak ribbon - I cut the ribbon to run along the top layer of the card (the image, which is on dimensional pop dots), then aligned the pattern of the ribbon along the next layer. This ribbon was a little surprise Diana from Magnolia-Licious included in my goodies this month. She always includes treats with every order :)
Designer Tip: Dritz Fray Check is fantastic for preventing your ribbon from fraying. I apply the clear, thin liquid with my paper piercer, running it along the edge of the ribbon. It is available at Michael's I believe (I got mine on eBay for $2). You can use clear glue as well, but the Fray Check is absorbed into the ribbon better.
The buttons, which are threaded with a bit of white embroidery floss, are by BasicGrey from the Porcelain collection.
I also made a little carrot patch acetate candy box. I used my Scor-Pal to gently score the thick acetate, then filled it with shredded cardstock topped with Speckled M&M Easter Eggs. Using my craft knife, I cut Xs into the top of the box and slid Lindt chocoate carrots into the top of the box. The carrots come with these odd green hooks attached, but I just cut them off. A fun little gift, no?

Who needs a cherry on top when you can have a whole other cupcake? This sweet little cupcake shaped card took me all of 90 seconds to make. Sometimes a girl needs a quickie. To make it, all you do is die cut a Large Long Rectangles Nestabilities (I used the third from the largest on Chocolate Chip Textured cardstock). I scored it in the center after I cut it. You can use punches or just cut it out too.
Next, die cut a Large Scallop Circle Nestabilities (I used the second largest). This time you need to score your patterned paper first, and slip the cutting lip of the die slightly above the score fold so that you don't cut the crease. I used Zip Dry glue to adhere the patterned paper to the cardstock. Double sided patterned paper is best as you can see both sides when you open the card (October Afternoon's Detours collection used here).
The sentiment is a Making Memories Pebble Sticker from the Animal Crackers collection.

Hello everyone and happy Monday! I hope the day finds you well and full of mojo! I have been sufferin' from a lack thereof a bit. I finally tossed my hands in the air and decided to keep today's card sweet and simple - very apropos as today's challenge over at the House Mouse & Friends Challenge Blog is to make a card with something sweet, be it literally or figuratively.
I colored this sweet Happy Hoppers Love Bunny image (note the clever use of the word sweet ah I entertain myself) with the Copics you see above, then mounted it on Pink Paislee Pleasant and Wonderful patterned paper from the new Enchanting collection that I got from Embellish-Online. There is a very soft halo of blue Copic marker around the bunnies, whick looks so pretty in real life, but is hidden from the camera. The shape of the card is thanks to the largest scallop Nestabilities (score Chocolate Chip Textured Cardstock then cut with the die cut, making sure the top of the circle doesn't cut all the way through).
The new pink Prima Dandies flowers go so well with this collection - it is the perfect warm pink with brown center. I added a tiny bit of scruffed up Stampin' Up! Taffeta Ribbon attached to the Cuttlebug Tag. The sweet baby sentiment is a Making Memories Animal Crackers Pebble Sticker.

I just love that Martina McBride song. And now I can't get it out of my head. In my opinion, today's card is the ultimate girlfriend card. Who wouldn't like to receive pearls and flowers in the mail, and be taken to a picnic of daisies? More on that at the bottom of this post, just a teeny surprise for someone.
Card details: I went shabby chic for the debut of the Embellish-Online.com April gallery. The image, Picnic of Daisies by Stampavie's Sarah Kay line, was colored with the Copics you see above, then mounted on Core-Dinations cardstock that I sanded and painted with white crackle paint.
I have discovered my favorite lip color for Copics - Flesh. It is a few tones darker than skin white and doesn't make her look like she is wearing lipstick, but rather just a natural lip color. If you double click the image you can see a closeup of her lips better.
The dreamy green patterned paper is Memories from Prima's Flirty Little Secret collection, accented with Ruby paper from the same line. I used Martha Stewart's Classic Butterfly punch (so confusing - she has a single Classic Butterfly punch, then this punch of the same name, which is a trio of smaller butterflies) and Stampin' Up!'s Boho Blossoms punch, along with Prima flowers and K&Co. green, pink and cream Pearls.
I popped the white of the daisies with Signo White Gel Pen, adding a bit to the jeans as well.

Just a super quick post as this was a super easy card that involved no stamping for a change. Quite a different card for me. It was created for today's Ways To Use It Challenge over at Splitcoast Stampers. The challenge was to use foil on your project.
I took a scalloped Bazzill base card, added some Bazzill textured cardstock in a celery green color, then cut the green foil sheet to match. The butterfly is a Spellbinder's die cut using BasicGrey Porcelain patterned paper. The Laugh Out Loud chipboard piece by Colorbok is foiled as well. See the pattern connection even down to the Making Memories Noteworthy ribbon? I tried to play up on the foil's pattern. I hope you like this scrappy card!
