Sweet 'n Sassy Blog Hop

Hi and welcome to my stop on your Sweet 'n Sassy Blog Hop! Today's card is yet another shaped card (see my post below for a clear acetate shaped card). And yep, it is a  birthday card! Is it just me or is this birthday and baby season? Wonder what could be up with that. I have my guesses about winter and the need to keep warm and well, I will keep the rest to myself lol.

The circle card is die cut with Spellbinders Circle die cuts and uses the cute Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps set Birthday Fun. I colored the background, cake and balloons with the Copic Markers you see above.

I know it is a shocker that I added no glitter but with the addition of the American Craft Rockabye Foam Letters in Leaf I figured glitter would tip the scales over the WHOA! TOO MUCH SISTER!! limit.

The cake and balloons are propped up on Dimensional Foam Dots for extra 3D effect.

If you look closely you can see that I like to color the underside of the image as well. The foam dots are so thick that you can see most of what is underneath. Sometimes I color the foam dot too. Your next stop on the Hop will be Sandy's blog.

Stamp Out Alzheimers

Sweet 'n Sassy is so proud to take part in the Stamp Out Alzheimers event. Jen Tapler, from Jen Tapler Designs & Susanna Boyd, from Paper Craft Planet & Card of the Week are hosting a 7 day stamping and scrapbooking event starting May 25th to help raise money and awareness for Alzheimer's Disease. The site, Stampin' Out Alzheimer's, will feature challenges, contests, classes and more - with prizes donated from over 40 generous sponsors.

Hot For Dots Clear Flower Card

Hi & Hello!

Happy Friday to you! Hope it is a nice, relaxing one! As for me, I am busy making Banana Nut & Blueberry Bran muffins for our Stampin' Up! Demo retreat and trying to do one meelion other things that of course I waited too long to do. We are headed to the Irish Loop, an area of Newfoundland coast about 45 minutes out of town for a major stampathon weekend.  I will be out of town until Sunday, but do have posts scheduled, including two today :)

Today is my turn as Hostess for the Embellish-Online.com Friday Free For All Challenge. My challenge for you is to create a polka dotted or otherwise spotted card!

My card is quick and simple: I cut clear acetate with a Spellbinder's Nested Flowers die then layered die cut American Crafts Edith Fitzbolt patterned paper from the Craft Fair collection under it, securing it with a clear Mini Glue Dot. The Bazzill textured white circle goes on top of the acetate, also secured with a Mini Glue Dot. This way no glue dots are seen. There is a smaller white circle inside to write a note on. 

The "hi" sentiment is American Craft's Rockabye White Foam Thickers (self-adhesive letters that are so fun and fabulous :); the polka dotted ladybug is also an American Crafts sticker from the Umbrella collection. EI sells tons of letter stickers in felt, glitter, patent leather type - you name it. An amazing array of styles.

A Krafty Happy Birthday!

Hi & hello, and a very big Happy Birthday to Johanna, the owner of Odd Bird Planet! I made this snazzy little card for her birthday and also for the Ways To Use It Challenge over at Splitcoast. The challenge today is an easy one: use Kraft paper on your card.

I colored Teresa's Frame with the Copics you see above, adding a halo of golden yellow for a glow effect around the letters. Fruit Punch Stickles was applied over the letters for sparkle; Mint Green Liquid Pearls was applied here and there around the frame. The frame is popped up on Dimensional Glue Dots.

The center sentiment and cupcake is the Happy Birthday JJ Mix stamp; I added some Ruby Red Liquid Pearls to the cherry for a fun pop of dimension.

I added some Bo Bunny Fruit Punch Dot patterned paper to the side of the card and underneath the Fiskar's Threading Water punched edge.

Shake A Tail Feather & Manuels River Hiking Photos

Hi & Hello!
Today's card uses a Splitcoast Stampers Challenge Sketch and the newest Toodles & Binks image Puddleduck Pothington (doesn't the name just make you grin??). You get the sentiment and the image in a set.

I colored little duckie with the Copics you see above (forgetting to add Pale Sepia and Sepia that I used to color the reeds). The wire Copic holder in the background has been a godsend to me - love the easy access for my Sketch and Original sized markers, and it looks so sharp on my desk. It is available by special order from Diana at Magnolia-Licious.

The paper is by Sassafrass Lass (both sizes of Vintage Yummy Blossomed and Bazzill textured cardstocks). Lots of different Spellbinder's Dies helped with the cut work.

The pretty paper and fuzz flowers are Martha Stewart Daisy Glossary Dimensional Stickers.

Toodles & Binks is a new UK based stamp company started by a fellow crafting freak Kay Bolton. Kay will gladly accept PayPal and ship her unmounted red rubber anywhere in the world!

She is such a lovely lady and the rubber is great quality.

I wanted to leave you with some shots taken this past weekend. We went hiking along Manuels river.

The trail leads from these interesting flat rocks with cascading river water all the way to the beach and ocean. Tons of baby ducks and Sandpipers along the way.

They have lots of fossils in the area; it is quite common to find Trilobytes. I wanted to find one so badly but no luck - this time around :)

 It was so serene and beautiful. The doggies loved it.

Let's Party! Card, Long Weekend Photos & A Bit of News :)

Hi and hello! I hope you are enjoying your Memorial Day if you live in the U.S. Canada had it's long weekend last week. I will leave you with a few pictures after today's card details. First things first, after all :) This little card was created for the House Mouse & Friend's Challenge Blog. The challenge is to make a birthday card.

I colored the House Mouse Party Ribbons image with the Copic Markers you see above, then added some sparkle with Stickles Glitter Glue in Crystal.

The pink "confetti" is courtesy of Dew Drops. I added some white foam Thickers Alphabet Letters by American Crafts over a Bazzill  hot pink Just The Edge cardstock strip.

A happy little card, no?

Weekend Photos

Last weekend was Canada's long weekend to celebrate Victoria Day. Newfoundland calls it The May 24th. They say happy 24th, even if it is far from the day lol. Couldn't tell you why. Here are a few shots of the day.

My friend Kay and her husband had Allan and I over for a BBQ at her cabin in Spreadeagle. The lake there was so lovely.

We got to see fiercely protective seagull parents dogfighting with an eagle bigger than the two gulls put together. The eagle could have killed the birds easily but seemed to acquiesce, gave up and flew away.

I wish I could tell you I had photos but it was too far away and my camera didn't cooperate. I did get a shot of this bold rascal, a Gray Jay (cousin of the blue, without the crest) who flew in for a handout.

I took this shot of an iceberg from their deck. It was amazingly huge - to my surprise they said it had been in the harbor since April and was much smaller than it used to be.

This weekend Allan & I took Freeway and Rosie to the dog park. Once we grab the dog beds to put them in the car, they know they are headed out for some fun and get very excited.

Here is Freeway trying to see what Daddy is up to out by the car.

And here they are ready to go. Freeway will jump up and down like a living pogo stick until that door is opened.

At the park I got these action shots of my little terrors making friends. The pics do look a bit scary, but rest assured everyone was playing and having fun.

Freeway thinks he is the biggest dog there and loves to get in on a big dog wrestle.

Rosie, who is a spry senior at the age of 12, prefers to map the perimeter of the fence and sometimes feels social, sometimes not. Here she is about to bark, then charge at a poor Beagle lol. This is her social mood but she does scare some dogs off with her game of chicken lol.

Angels Landing

Last but not least, I am so proud to announce that I am a Design Team member for Angels Landing Digi-Stamps. Judi Maddigan, illustrates these fantastic sets and licenses them for the gift and craft industry.

 Stamps are just one of the ventures, and I am so proud to be a part of it. Take a look at the designs they are so fun to use, and come ready to go in colored ink as well as brown and black. When Judi contacted me about being on the team I was hesitant because I am so techno challenged, but I tried a file and it was simple as can be. Easier than pie :) Just print onto my 80 lb weight Neenah Solar Crest paper and color!  What I love that some of the sets are just made for layering. I love me my 3D cards :)

Oh Hoppy Day

Happy Friday! Hope your weekend is off to a fantastic start. Thank you so much for your well wishes I am feeling much better :) Today's card was created for the SCS Limited Supplies challenge. The challenge seems like it was just made for me: create a circular card. I am so obsessed with shaped cards lately.

Today's card uses the Dahlia Nestabilities because I thought the shape kind of looks like a lily pad. Directions on how I create a folding card using the Nestabilities die cuts can be seen here. 

I stamped the super cute Sweet 'n Sassy set Pond Pals with Tuxedo Black Memento Ink, then colored the frog and the dragonfly's wings with Copic Markers. Not sure if the picture picks it up, but I shaded the right side of the frog a darker green (New Leaf all over, then the darker Meadow Green).

 The dragonfly is cut out and attached with a dimensional foam dot. Sparkle was added with Waterfall Stickles glitter glue - this is one of my favorite colors, a sheer, holographic blue.  The green Dewdrops from the Water collection embellish the Bazzill cardstock.

Edwin on the Church Steps

Hi and hello!
Please forgive my blogging absence I have not been feeling well, which will also explain this quickie post. Today's card is for a young boy. It would make a wonderful Communion card, or for a Sunday School achievement. I kept it quite generic thanks to the sentiment, Just for You (Stampin' Up!'s Oval All set). It was so hard to not add any flowers or ribbon but I wanted to keep this card all boy.

I colored Sitting Edwin from the New Year's Collection with Copic markers, and put him on some Stone Steps. The Church Window image is popped up with foam dots onto a gray church "wall" (SEI patterned paper die cut with Spellbinders new Deckled Rectangles). I added Glossy Accents by Ranger to the solid glass part of the image.

Sweet 'n Sassy's May Round Up is here and it fits today's LSC Challenge over at SCS perfectly!

For May’s Round Up I wanted a super simple, fun card that is good for any occasion. I cut Core’dinations cardstock with Nestabilities shapes and colored in the Summer Fun beach ball and bucket images with Copics. The sentiment, stamped with Memento ink, is from the Summer Sentiments set. There, you have it, fun in the sun in mere moments.

Bright & Cheerful Mini Cards

Hi and hello!
Today's I have a pair of mini cards/tags to share with you that use Odd Bird Planet Stamps. The first features a happy little rainbow theme using the Rainbow stamp.

After coloring the image with Copics and cutting it out, I die cut Summer Sun cardstock by Stampin' Up! using Nestabilities Pinking Circles.

The inner orange layer features Bo Bunny patterned paper that has been die cut with Classic Inverted Scalloped Circles. Reporters at CHA were given the dies in a Spellbinder's Press Kit.

I thought I would never use them, but now that I dug it out and cut just once with it I find myself using it a lot. It is great for sun shapes so will be a staple for my summer cards.

The patterned paper is Tree Tops by Sassafras Lass from the Bungle Jungle collection.

My second card featured the tiny 3/4 inch stamp Birthday Sparkle Chicklet Right that has been  colored with Copics. This tiny card is under 3 inches and would be perfect attached to a birthday present.

The blue textured cardstock is by Bazzill, the hot pink polka dot patterned paper is by Bo Bunny and has been cut with Nestabilities Nested Flower shapes.

These cards are on their way to California as samples. Hope they like them, and I hope you do too. Something a little different from my usual repertoire :)

Miss You

I hope you had a lovely weekend and Mother's Day! A super quickie post for the day as I scramble to finish several projects and get dinner going. Today's card is created for the House Mouse & Friend's Challenge Blog. This week's challenge is Moving. I created my card for a friend I moved away from. She was my crafty *and* java partner in crime, and I miss her so much. Everyone needs a friend to brave the snow and head on a Michael's run at 9pm with.

I created a very simple card today: I layered Bazzill Edgers onto Core'dinations cardstock; the die cuts are all by Spellbinders.

After coloring the Morning Kick Start image with Copic markers, I stamped the polka dots and sentiment (both Paper Tray by Papertrey) with VersaMagic chalk ink in Turquoise Gem.  The ribbon is by May Arts.

The Dew Drops in the upper right hand corner round out the polka dot theme :)

How to Make a Scallop Circle Shaped Card

Hi everyone! Quickie post today as we are setting  up for a BBQ party. I received lots of e-mails asking me how to make the shaped card I made here. It is super easy!

This is what I used:

• Scor-Pal (or bone folder or any other scoring tool)
• Nestabilities Die Cuts (largest Large Scallop Circle used here, any shape is fine)
• Cuttlebug (or any other rolling die cut machine)
• 8x4.5 inch piece of cardstock

Directions:

1. Score your piece of cardstock in the center, making sure it will fit the size die cut you are using.

Fold along the crease to create card.

2. Fit die cut, cutting lip side down, over your cardstock.

Slide die cut ABOVE the card's scored fold, turning the scallop shape until it is symmetrical along the top. You want it to be even.

In this picture I haven't folded the card yet, it is just to show you where everything goes.

Also note that when you cut the lip side needs to be facing down. That lip part is what actually cuts the paper.

3. The tricky part is keeping your die cut from moving on the machine before it is cut. They have magnetic mats to hold things in place but they really don't work well for me.  You can use a piece of removable tape to temporarily hold it in place, but I usually just hold my finger over it then smoosh it with the top B plate and it holds.

Tip: The Cuttlebug layers to use Nestabilities are (from bottom to top) Plate A, Plate C, die cut, Plate B.

I like to add another smaller scallop over the base so that you never even see the flattened part of the scallops where the card creases.

Dreamy Tilda Scallop Circle Card

Hi and hello!
Happy Friday! Today's card is a small (for a Magnolia card) circle scallop shaped card. I say tiny because it is under 4", using the largest scallop circle in my Nestabilities. Magnolia Stamps fans usually make larger cards (5.5' or even 6' square is common) because we love to have fun with multiple stamps and embellishments.  Sometimes, however, petite is sweet :)

The Bazzill  white textured card base is layered with Bo Bunny Pink Punch Dot patterned paper. Dreamy Tilda from the New Year collection is colored with shades of purple and pink Copics that you see above.  Lately I have been mixing colors with wonderful results. I am not sure if my camera picked up the subtleties of the pink and purple but it looks so pretty in real. If you are wondering why I did not use the envelope I colored, I had intended to fit the acetate over it, but with such a small card it became just too much going on.

Tilda rests on a Stampin' Up! Pretty in Pink Taffeta Ribbon. I stamped the Letter With Heart image from the Love Collection in Staz-On onto acetate, then colored in the heart with Copics from the other size as Copics and Staz-On do not go together. The Copics kind of pool onto the acetate and look like Alcohol Ink, which is kind of neat. The "U" letter is a white foam Thicker (self adhesive alphabet piece) by American Crafts.

Final touches include Prima Trio Pack Flowers from the Nursery Tales Collection and some flatback pearls and pink rhinestones from Making Memories.

It's Good News...

Hello again!
I am back with yet another card for today. I just has to share the newest Toodles & Binks stamp, Clive Cochran. Yep that is the rooster's name, and he has some good news to crow about!  The sentiment comes with the image, which is always nice.

Clive was stamped twice onto ivory cardstock, then colored with the Copic Markers you see in the photo below. I popped him up on some dimensionals as usual for a little 3D action.

I loved the sharp contrasts of the colors used and wanted the texture and color to be the star, so kept embellishments to a minimum, just using a scrap of May Arts ruffled grosgrain trim and some orange checked gingham ribbon (also by May Arts). The button is by BasicGrey.

The image and frame are cut with Nestabilities and also put on pop dots under the final layer.

The patterned paper is Orange Citrus Dot by Bo Bunny; it is layered with Stampin' Up! Tangerine Tango, Baja Breeze and Chocolate Chip all on a base of Stampin' Up! striped kraft paper from the Taste of Textiles patterned paper collection.

Three Scoops at the Sweet Stop

Hi and hello!
This week's sketch over at The Sweet Stop involves lots and lots of layers, so I thought I would layer on the ice cream as well :) I used lots of Nestabilities die cuts to do all the cut work for me.

I stamped the ice cream cone from Summer Fun three times then cut out the scoops and made myself a calorie free triple scoop.

The Neapolitan colors of Chocolate, Vanilla and Strawberry are courtesy of Copic markers.

The sentiment, stamped in Ancient Page Chocolate ink, is from the Summer Sentiments. Both sets are now 15% off, as well as all spring and summer stamps.

The bright, happy colored paper is Sassafras Lass' Cris Cross (the blue checked) from the Serendipity collection. The polka dot is Intertwined from the Fawned collection;  the swirly strip comes from the same sheet. The hot pink textured cardstock is by Bazzill.

I  used chocolate, vanilla and strawberry Dew Drops in the upper right corner to balance the design a bit.

Sweet 'n Sassy Goes Psychadelic on the CPS Highway

Today Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps is sponsoring the sketch over at Card Positioning Systems. I do admit I took some liberty with the sketch but I think the spirit remains intact. I just had to adjust placement to not cover this fabulous Full Bloom paper from the new Sasafrass Lass Anthem collection.

I had this idea about taking the path less traveled, with the arrows telling the little RV to head out one way, and it deciding to head another. 

I outlined the RV from the Sweet 'n Sassy Set Holiday Road in wild shades of red, orange and yellow Copic markers, then blended with the yellow for a glowing, funky RV that Jerry Garcia would be proud to ride in lol.

I cut the wheels out and put them on thicker Dimensional pop dots than the rest of the RV. The red scallop circle is a Nestabilities die cut.

 The little "road strip" is the bottom of the Full Bloom paper that I cut and placed, adding Cuttlebug arrow die cuts and the Not All Who Wander are Lost sentiment (also from Holiday Road).

The very bottom of the Full Bloom paper has this fabulous diamond edging that I am saving for another card. What a great pattern, just love it.

Scrappy Cards with the New American Crafts Collection & New DT Announced!

Today's cards were created for Embellish-Online Design Team Gallery which opens today. Do not adjust your monitors, I know what you're thinking - these don't look like "Suzy cards". Trust me I heard all about it from Allan lol. These are what are called scrappy cards, meaning that there is no stamping involved and they lean toward scrapbooking trend in design.

They all use the new American Crafts paper collections that just arrived in the Embellish-Online.com store.  For a change, I love the bigger, bolder shapes of scrapbook paper (as opposed to the smaller print of card making paper that I use far more often). To maximize the playfulness of the shapes I used my Nestabilities to make shaped card. You know I love my coloring and stamps, but sometimes it's fun to try things outside of your norm. Here is the breakdown on each card:

Hi Flower shaped Card

This any occasion card is my favorite of the bunch. I die cut textured white cardstock with a flower shaped Nestabilities, then added die cuts of Marge Hemmingway paper, the solid green side of Mona Trimenez paper, and the polka dotted Edith Fitzbolt paper, all from Craft Fair Collection. The letters are American Crafts Thickers adhesive white foam letters. 

The heart button thingy is something new to me that I love - Made With Love Adhesive Badges from the Craft Fair Collection. They are like laminated tin button pins but without the pin lol. You get 8 to a package, and there are all kinds of styles in the EI store right now. I used another from the package on the Smile card below.

 

BFF Teen Card
For this card suited for a teenage girl or the young at heart girlfriend I used Prom Date heart patterned paper from the Teen collection framed with the solid pink side of Alice Stitcherson from the Craft Fair collection.

I rounded the corners of the papers on one side and tilted the top layer a bit for a funky look. White Foam Thickers spell out BFF (Best Friend Forever). The stars are Bazzill Edgers, popped up on foam dots.

Hoos 29 Birthday Card

No cardstock on this card! I kind of liked the peek of green on the backside of Rose McGrain patterned paper from the Craft Fair collection, so I kept it; the card is small enough that it doesn't feel flimsy.  The owl is cut out from Lucy Hootski paper, also from Craft Fair. Aren't the names adorable? The paper is not as thick and fibrous as BasicGrey's, and cuts so easily. The letters are more Foam Thickers  ~ inside the card says {again!} haha.

The polka dot thingy is something new to me that I love - Made With Love Adhesive Badges from the Craft Fair Collection. They are like laminated tin button pins but without the pin lol. Smile Any Occasion Card

I just love the argyle pattern of Class President paper from the Teen Collection, and played it up with the diamond pattern of the Bazzill Edger strip that has been popped up with foam dimensional dots. The circle shaped card is thanks to Nestabilities, as is the butterfly die cut which uses the opposite side of Class President paper. All of the American Crafts papers from these collections are solid on one side and patterned on the other.

EI's New Design Team

Rosettes & Pirouettes

Hi and hello, thank you for dropping in :)

Happy first of May! A new month means a new Magnolia-Licious May Sketch. Each month a member of the design team comes up with a sketch for you to play with. This month's fabulous sketch by Sharon Caudle is very simple, so can fit so many different kinds of looks.

I had in mind a super girly look, so softened up the geometric angles with leaves and flowers. The result is a cleaner, simple look that remains soft and feminine.

I stamped the Autumn Frame stamp by Magnolia onto Papertrey's Linen Vellum cardstock, then colored it with the Copics you see above, and added Liquid Pearl rosettes.

Tilda the Ballet Princess (from the Pink Collection, proceeds of which benefits Breast Cancer charitable causes) was colored with Copics and accented with Fruit Punch Stickles, then popped up onto the frame with foam dimensionals.

I also created my own embellishments using a Stampin' Up! Boho Blossoms punch, Little Leaves die cut and more rosettes. If you would like to make your own rosettes, my mini tutorial can be found here.

The sentiment image is from Stampin' Up's Oval All, with the Scallop Oval punch underneath.

I added more Liquid Pearls and a handmade flower with rosette. The pearlized pink cardstock base is Bazzill Bling.
