Hello out there! Our team challenge this month over at AShadeofBlue.net was to create a Valentine's Day card using NO pink or red, but rather to use unusual colors. I thought of the strangest color combo I could and came up with lilac (which I have never even used) and brown. Well I LOVE it so much that it is now my new fave color combo and also my FIRST Color Challenge!
I challenge you to create a card with the following colors:
- Lovely Lilac (or any lilac)
- Chocolate Chip (Brown)
- Pomegranate (or any berry color)
Please post your card on your blog, over at the ASB Papercrafting Forum, SCS, or anywhere else and post the link here so we can all see it's gloriousness! There is no deadline, just have fun. I would love to see your work.
I stamped my heart with VersaMark, then inked it with Stampin' Up Pomegranate Ink, and then applied Clear Embossing Powder to give some shine and texture.
The berries stamp from Stampin' Up! Always provides a nice background. The heart is a bit to the right of the card as the lilac grosgrain bow on the left is so large and striking. I tilted the bow on an angle to "frame" the heart.
The Imaginisce clear acrylic stamp sentiment was also stamped in Pomegranate and match the new Loves Me line of paper. The stamps are very pretty AND even better they are CHEAP (about $1.40 CDN each). The quality if very high they are firm and deeply molded.
Just look at that luscious Bling Cardstock - I so love the textured, pearlized finish. I would marry it if I could.
I also sponged around the Lilac cardstock with Pomegranate to integrate the color into the design.
Design Tip: Consider each color used an actor in a play you are creating. Each color will have it's own character in your creation, and needs to have not only a purpose for being there, but must also fit in with the other characters. There can only be one star, the other colors are supporting characters and thus must be complementary. The same can be said for shape, cut, and embellishment. One very strong color can cause other colors to "pop", three very strong colors can clash and cause a loss of focus, especially when strong embellishments come into play.
Thank you for stopping by! Be sure to stop by tomorrow as I reveal the Glue Art & Paper Studio project I have been working on - it is so fun and unique I really love how it turned out :)
